Monica Perry was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She began studying piano at age 11 and violin and fiddle at age 12. Her first exposure to the Suzuki Method came with those first fiddle and violin lessons and continued for several years. During high school, she studied with Julliard Graduate and student of Issac Stern, David Perkins in Houston. He quickly became her "fiddle hero!" He allowed her to play his Amati violin -- and found for her the instrument that she still plays -- a 1922 W.A. Pfretzchner violin with a birds-eye maple back. During this time, Monica performed throughout the state of Texas with the likes of Clint Black, Gary P. Nunn and Doug Supernaw and at such venues as Billy Bob's Texas, Gilley's, The U.S. Olympic Festival, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Johnny High Music Revue and many others. Upon entering college, she studied violin at Trinity University and then transferred to Vanderbilt University and continued her violin studies, although she decided to double major in Political Science and French instead of Music. While in Nashville, she studied with Fiddle Great Buddy Spicher and had the opportunity to play with the likes of Johnny Gimble, Patty Loveless, Gary P. Nunn, LeeAnn Rimes and even Bob Hope! She was fortunate enough to finally meet the great Issac Stern in Nashville as well...and his incredible kindness and bright smile will remain with her always.
Monica began her Suzuki Career Nine years ago and has undergone Teacher Training at the Atlanta Suzuki Institute. She is a member of the Suzuki Association of America.
